The TAC Road Safety Quarterly Statistics Report contains statistical information on the lives lost and injuries* sustained on Victorian roads in transport accidents.

Key numbers from the report

For a 12 months period to March 2021:

Lives lost and fatal crashes per 100,000 populations were 3.08 and 2.86 respectively.
Lives lost and fatal crashes per 10,000 vehicles were 0.40 and 0.37 respectively.
A total of 207 people lost their lives on Victorian roads. This is a 19.8% decrease (51 less lives lost) from the same period in the previous 12 months.
Cardinia (11), 8 each in Greater Bendigo and Shepparton, 7 each in Boroondara, Casey, East Gippsland, Greater Geelong and 6 each in Greater Dandenong and Mount Alexander, 5 each in Mornington Peninsula, Wellington and Wyndham had the highest numbers of lives lost, compared to all other LGA’s during this period.
51.7% (107) of lives lost were drivers, 16.4% (34) were motorcyclists, 14% (29) were pedestrians, 13% (27) were passengers and 4.8% (10) were bicyclists.
There were 192 fatal crashes on Victorian roads. This includes eight double and a triple and quadruple fatality crash. This compares to 240 fatal crashes during the 12 months to the end of March 2020 (48 fewer fatal crashes).
On average 27,147 speed infringements and 409 excessive speed infringements were issued from Mobile cameras.

For a 12 months period to September 2020 (latest available hospitalisation data):

A total of 5,975 TAC claimants were admitted to the hospital acutely. This is a 28% decrease (2,322 less acute hospitalisations) from the same period in the previous 12 months.
There were 669 (11.2%) of claimants who were acutely admitted to hospital stayed in the hospital for more than 14 days. This is a 28% decrease (-266) from the same period in the previous year.
There were less hospitalised claims resulting from crashes in Melbourne (-1282), down 26%, compared to the same period in the previous 12 months.
There were also less hospitalised claims resulting from crashes in Rural Victoria (-523), down 21%, compared to the same time in the previous 12 months.
There were 75 less hospitalised claims from same direction crashes, compared to the same time in the previous year.
1,347 and 972 hospitalised claims resulted from single vehicle accidents and from same direction accidents respectively. 15.6% (210) of the people hospitalised from single vehicle crashes stayed in hospital for more than 14 days. This compares to 5.9% (57) of same direction hospitalisation's staying in hospital for more than 14 days.
