TAC clients receive modified vehicles in record time

When a TAC client has serious injuries that require a modified car, we help obtain one. It once took months to deliver a vehicle. Now it takes just a few weeks.
Visit the TAC YouTube page to see TAC client James Greer receive a modified car through the fast new process.
“We’ve moved to a proactive model instead of a reactive model, whereby we’re purchasing cars before we’ve identified clients that need them,” says TAC vehicle specialist Tim Osborne. “We’re going from a previous average of 18 months for a vehicle to be manufactured and given to a client. Now we’re looking at about six weeks.”
The TAC helps pay for vehicle modifications when a client has spinal cord or other serious injuries that make it difficult to drive, get in and out of a vehicle, load mobility aids or be transported safely while someone else drives. Often that means simple changes to the client’s current vehicle. But in some cases of long-term injury, the TAC facilitates the purchase of a modified vehicle.
“Reducing the timeframe to deliver a vehicle to a client reduces a lot of pressure on family and carers,” says Tim. “It really increases the client’s independence and general well-being.”
James received his modified vehicle in the reduced timeframe. Vehicle converter Automobility lowered the floor of a Kia Carnival and altered its structural and suspension systems. The Automobility team met with James so additional changes could be made to meet his specific needs
“I’ve been using taxis a lot,” says James. “So I feel every bump and lump. This car doesn’t feel anything. It’s beautiful. I’ve been counting the days to get out and about to places I would normally not go.”
