Thank you for your extraordinary efforts to support TAC clients during these challenging times.

We are now preparing to implement TAC telehealth item codes for GPs, medical specialists and a broad range of allied health services. The new telehealth item codes will align to your current TAC face-to-face rate.

Eligible allied health services will include physiotherapy, neurophysiotherapy, psychology, neuropsychology, OT, exercise physiology, osteopathy, chiropractic, dietetics, speech pathology, social work and podiatry.

A phased approach will allow all eligible providers to invoice the TAC for telehealth services by the end of April.

We encourage you to continue to deliver services to TAC clients with our reassurance that you will be paid at the current TAC face-to-face rate. Telehealth invoices can be backdated to 13 March 2020.

In line with the TAC's Clinical Framework, providers must ensure the need for telehealth is clinically justified, outcome focussed and related to a client’s transport accident.

“We recognise the vital importance of telehealth consultations to give continuity of care to TAC clients and to ensure the safety of our providers,” says Damian Poel, the TAC’s Head of Supported Recovery. “We are collaborating with peak bodies and working as quickly as possible to ensure we have the necessary systems and processes to deliver these changes.”

Updates to fee schedules and item codes

TAC fee schedules will be updated when new telehealth item codes are available. We will notify you of this through our website, provider newsletter and social media channels.

As announced last week, we have implemented temporary telehealth MBS rates for GPs and medical specialists. These providers will instead be able to invoice using the new TAC telehealth item codes when they become available.
