Invoicing the TAC for PBS items in LanternPay
If you invoice the TAC for Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) items through LanternPay, please remember that medication prescribed in accordance with the PBS must be claimed as PBS items.
If you invoice the TAC for PBS items through LanternPay, here are some important things to remember:
- Medication prescribed in accordance with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) must be claimed as PBS items.
- Do not claim PBS items as non-PBS (private), as this is not an accurate reflection of the services provided to our client and what was prescribed.
Please ensure all staff involved with invoicing the TAC are aware of the points above. If you have difficulty invoicing for PBS items in LanternPay, you can contact lanternpay@tac.vic.gov.au
How to find items in LanternPay
To find a PBS item, search using the PBS code. For example, to search for Oxycontin 40mg, use PBS code 8387K. If the client is a concession card holder, adjust the pricing to reflect the client’s eligibility.
To find a non-PBS item, search using the drug name or brand name. For example, to search for Neurontin, type in ‘Gabapentin’ or ‘Neurontin’ and select the matching item.
If we require further information
The TAC’s Billing Review Program carries out periodic reviews of payments to providers. This helps ensure that invoicing accurately reflects the services provided to clients, and that services and payments are in line with the Transport Accident Act 1986 and the relevant fee schedules, policies and guidelines.
If you are selected for a billing review, you will receive a letter detailing the information and documentation required, along with further information relating to the process.
