TAC clients and when to seek approval for psychology or neuropsychology treatment
From 17 August our approval requirements will depend on whether a treatment is delivered within the first 90 days of the client’s accident, or after 90 days. TAC clients can access up to 6 TAC funded psychology or neuropsychology treatment sessions without contacting us for approval first, if sessions are delivered within the first 90 days of the client’s accident.
We understand the significant pressures on you as a health provider in this challenging environment. Thank you for the ongoing support you deliver to TAC clients.
In response to feedback over the last 12 months, we want to give you greater clarity about when to seek our approval for delivering psychology or neuropsychology treatment, and how we make decisions about what we can help pay for.
What we can pay for after an accident
From 17 August our approval requirements will depend on whether a treatment is delivered within the first 90 days of the client’s accident, or after 90 days.
TAC clients can still access up to 6 TAC funded psychology or neuropsychology treatment sessions without contacting us for approval first, if sessions are delivered within the first 90 days of the client’s accident.
When you need to seek TAC approval
If a TAC client needs psychology or neuropsychology treatment you will need to submit a Mental Health Treatment Plan at whichever point comes first:
- Your patient needs more than 6 sessions in the first 90 days after their accident, or
- Your patient needs treatment beyond the first 90 days of their accident (regardless of how many sessions they have already had).
You do not need to wait to hear from us before submitting your plan if your patient is likely to need more than 6 sessions in the first 90 days, or treatment beyond 90 days. We will pay you for a completed Mental Health Treatment Plan in line with the TAC fee schedule.
For clients who do not begin mental health treatment until after the first 90 days, please contact us to discuss their needs.
The treatment must be recommended by a health professional, related to the client’s accident injuries and delivered in line with the TAC Clinical Framework.
Visit our website for details on what we can pay for and how to seek TAC approval.
Thank you again for your dedicated work to support our clients and your commitment to help them achieve the best possible outcomes.
