The Transport Accident Commission has announced new legal protocols that will reduce disputes and lengthy litigation times for injured Victorians.

The Protocols are agreed guidelines between the TAC, Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) and Law Institute of Victoria.

TAC's Head of Claims Bruce Crossett said the Protocols were designed to ensure an efficient and transparent process between TAC and law firms, delivering appropriate compensation to injured Victorians while minimising lengthy litigation.

"Over the past decade, the Protocols have reduced the length of legal disputes for TAC clients, with more than 90% of common law matters now resolved within 12 months of a serious injury decision," Mr Crossett said.

"The TAC and representatives of ALA and LIV have now completed three years of collaboration to strengthen the protocols, with changes that will further improve outcomes for Victorians who are seriously injured in a transport accident.

"The new Protocols replace those created in 2005 to create a more efficient, timely and transparent litigation process," Mr Crossett said.

The TAC, ALA and LIV will be communicating with legal firms directly about the changes.
