Leading Victorian sporting organisations have thrown their weight behind the TAC's new Towards Zero campaign.
The new approach to road safety has seen an end to shock ads, moving in a new directon that asks Victorians to understand that no one deserves to die on our roads.
Collingwood, Geelong Cats and Melbourne Victory are among the elite professional sporting clubs backing the approach.
Geelong community leaders gathered at Simonds Stadium today, as the Cats' chairman and chief executive showed how they are contributing to the Towards Zero vision.
Geelong Cats chief executive Brian Cook said the club had embraced the Towards Zero approach with a safe driving policy and continued education of staff and players.
"Road safety is something we feel very strongly about and this policy applies to everyone who drives a club vehicle," Mr Cook said.
Geelong fans will also see blanket advertising across Simonds Stadium for tomorrow's Round 23 clash with Adelaide.
Collingwood and Essendon fans will have the chance to get involved this weekend, with a special activity at the MCG giving them the chance to be up on the big screen.
The opportunity will see fans have their photo taken showing the 0 with their hands, and see it up on the screen later in the game. Photos can also be posted with the #towardszero.
AFL isn't the only sport backing the Towards Zero vision, with Melbourne Victory getting on the front foot last A-League season in talking to their fans about the concept.
TAC chief executive Joe Calafiore called on community leaders for their support, acknowledging that Towards Zero was an ambitious target.
"But unless we're working towards the highest possible benchmark, Victorians will continue to lose loved ones to road trauma and we can never accept that," Mr Calafiore said.
"If we're not aiming for zero, we are saying to ourselves that there is an acceptable level of road trauma.
"That's why it's up to all of us, as leaders in the Geelong community, to work together Towards Zero," Mr Calafiore said.
