Local businesses, government and community groups showing leadership in road trauma reduction have less than a week to submit entries for the annual Towards Zero Road Safety Awards.

The awards recognise organisations that have played a role in preventing deaths and serious injuries on Victorian roads.

Transport Accident Commission road safety project manager Jessica Truong said many Victorian organisations had shown leadership with initiatives to bring down road trauma.

"This is a great chance to say 'thank you and well done' to people out there making a real difference, whether it is in their local area or across the state," Ms Truong said.

The awards encourage organisations to contribute to a safer overall road system with initiatives that promote safer road users, safer speeds, safer vehicles or safer roads infrastructure.

"Any initiative that has strengthened any aspect of the road system has helped us on our journey towards zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads," Ms Truong said.

Entrants must have implemented a road safety initiative between the start of 2012 and end of 2014.

Last year's winners included McColls Transport for a program to keep its drivers safe and Bosch Australia for developing vehicle safety technologies.

Mornington Peninsula Shire and VicRoads won awards for safety improvements to local roads.

This year's winners will be announced at an awards ceremony following the Towards Zero Road Safety Leadership Symposium on August 26. The Symposium will bring together community and business leaders from throughout Victoria to discuss the roles they can play in Victoria's march towards zero road deaths and injuries.

The awards will be held in conjunction with the Towards Zero 2015 Road Safety Media Awards, recognising the best road safety coverage.

Winners in both the road safety and media awards will receive trophies and $500.
